Not driving at all is obviously best for the environment, followed by GoCar, then followed by electric vehicles. Surprised by that? Here’s why…

1. GoCar customers don’t buy cars…

GoCar customers also tend to not buy, or replace a car, or to not to buy a second car…therefore reducing car ownership. Each GoCar will take about 10-20 privately-owned cars off the road. This frees up space for civic amenities such as wider footpaths, trees and parks.

2. When they have to drive, GoCar customers travel ‘smarter’…

GoCar customers think through their mobility options first rather than just hopping into a car (can I walk, cycle, take public transport, take taxi etc). GoCar comes last in their considerations, so they drive less. Therefore lower air pollution and CO2 emitted, and less congestion, noise pollution, etc. They also tend to plan ahead – for example grouping several tasks into one trip, and also choosing the shortest route to carry out all those tasks.GoCar therefore increase the use of EVERY other mode of transport other than the privately-owned vehicle – and that includes public transport, taxis and car rental!

3. On top of travelling smarter, GoCar customers will also pick the smallest car…

When they DO choose to actually drive, GoCar customers will tend to drive the smallest car required. People who purchase cars tend to size it for the largest size they might require. Again, this means a tendency towards smaller, lighter, vehicles on our roads…so less damage to roads for local authorities to have to repair, increasing the potential capacity of a city’s road infrastructure, lower pollution and CO2 emissions from usage, etc.

4. That small car that they’re driving will also happen to be a very new, and a highly efficient, car…

GoCar’s fleet is generally very new, less than one or two years old. They will also be of the lowest emissions category possible. Therefore even a GoCar will be better for your lungs and for the environment, then the comparative ‘average’ car around you.

5. Customers think of the cost on a per-trip basis…

Rather than the cost of a trip being deferred until later as is the case with private vehicle ownership (for example possibly a year later when it’s time to renew your insurance premium), with GoCar customers will tend to be aware of the cost of every trip. They therefore they become aware of the real day-to-day cost of using a vehicle and each kilometre and drive accordingly.
